Aldrine Kibet has emerged as one of Kenya’s most promising young footballers, making headlines in 2025 after signing a four-year deal with Spanish side Celta Vigo in July.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder, who first rose to prominence at St. Anthony’s Boys High School in Kitale, now features for RC Celta Fortuna, the club’s Under 19 team. His move marked an important milestone for Kenyan football and a global recognition of local talent.
Kibet’s journey to Europe began in 2023 when he joined Nàstic Sports Academy in Spain, where he sharpened his technical and tactical skills under professional guidance. His development at the academy paved the way for his eventual signing with Celta Vigo, cementing his reputation as one of Kenya’s brightest players to set foot in European football.
Before heading abroad, Kibet had already captured national attention during the 2023 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Games, where he led St. Anthony’s Kitale to victory and recorded an impressive 25 goals and 27 assists, earning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
Kibet has also represented Kenya at the youth level, featuring for the U18 and U20 national teams. He was the Golden Boot winner at the 2023 CECAFA U18 Championship after finishing as the tournament’s top scorer.
In recognition of his stellar performances, Kibet, who plays as an attacking midfielder, was named the SJAK/LG Sports Personality of the Month in 2023.
